Meet Pastor Zach Ray

Pastor Zach grew up as a missionary kid in the country of China. He was saved at the age of six and surrendered to the call to preach when he was a freshman in college. In 2015 he graduated with a BA in Biblical Studies from Heartland Baptist Bible College, and shortly after graduation he married his wife, Lydia. They spent the first few years of their ministry as church planting missionaries in China. After serving a term on the mission field, the Lord led him to Findlay, Ohio to establish Foundation Baptist Church. Pastor Zach has the heart of a missionary and a burden for the lost here at home. Pastor Zach and his wife have been serving in Findlay since September of 2022.

Brother Tom Bird has been attending our church plant for several months. He uses a wheelchair but is as faithful as a clock. He has known the Lord for many years and is dead set on being a charter member. The only obstacle was baptism. I explained from the Scriptures that he would need to be baptized and he was willing and eager to get it done.

I contacted our local YMCA and discussed using their pool that had a chair lift. After weeks of discussion a time was set. The only time that would work for them turned out to be Bro. Tom’s 68th birthday, but he canceled his family plans and made his baptism a priority. Many from the church plant came out to view the baptismal service.

We were all there, waiting to go into the pool area and a staff member informed me that the lift battery was dead, and the lift was useless. I spoke to Tom and said we’d need to call off the service, but he insisted on trying the steps. He said, “I’ve been praying about this all day and I’d like to try the steps”. We helped him, step by step, down into the water. I baptized him and we cautiously lifted him, step by step, back into his chair. He said, “Thank you, this is so special to get to do on my birthday!”

Acts 8:36b “See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?”

Where there is a will there is a way. Very proud pastor here! God is good!
